Volkswagen of America has collaborated with Tony Ortega, a well-known Denver visual artist, to create a custom design that both celebrates the culture of Hispanic communities while also nodding to the brand’s 75th Anniversary in the USA.
Ortega shares, “Surrounded in the same color, the people in my artwork become part of the colorscape, not as individuals but as a collective community. The people in my paintings don't have individual features; they are faceless, yet each one is important in defining the community’s interactions, be they at work, play, school, or at family or community celebrations. My work interweaves the Western concepts of perspective, light/shadow, and the overlapping of shapes of pre-Columbian designs of simplified animals, brilliant colors, and an inviting temperature that ultimately creates a harmonious composition."
