Back in the 70s, mechanic Joe Markham’s German shepherd, who had already chewed up everything in Joe’s shop, started in on a VW Bus’ spare rubber axle
stop. But try as he might, the dog couldn’t destroy it.
Which gave Joe an idea: create an ultra-durable dog toy inspired by this car part. 48 years later, KONG® has become the iconic dog toy we know today.
Turns out, Germans have always had a thing for quality engineering.
